My Scholarship entry - NY Exposed

USA | Monday, November 17, 2014 | 5 photos

My name is Sean Fitzthum, and my path has been a windy one. I have always been creative and artistic, for as long as I can remember, but school bored me, and I was getting into trouble... so in 2000, at the age of 20, I joined the Army, as a Satellite Communications Operator/ Maintainer (25S.) During my time in the Army, I lived all over the southern east coast, and spent a year in South Korea. I knew the Army wasn't for me after 6 weeks, but I had signed up for 6 years. In 2006, I was Honorably Discharged, and started working for General Dynamics as a Space Vehicle Operator, based in the DC area. I attended Engineering classes at the University of Maryland, but never finished my Electrical Engineering degree, before having some self realizations, and resigning in 2010. I moved back to Long Island, enrolled in classes in everything I was interested in, at Nassau Community College, and decided that Graphic Design would be the degree I would pursue. I enrolled in the Graphic Design program at the Art Institute of NYC, in Tribeca, and eventually moved to Brooklyn. After taking one photography class, I was hooked. I have been upgrading my equipment ever since. Who knows what's next.
