I had pitched my tent in Georges garden the previous evening and after packing it all back together again I was treated to a fully blown breakfast by the neighbours. Generosity in person - I mean would you get up at eight in the morning to make a total stranger breakfast for nothing but conversation in return. Im so impressed by these people - their openess and kindness, generous ways and friendly hospitality are just so totally unexpected. It is also impossible to say no to them. See last nights excess drinking. No headache by the way - this Rackia is great stuff.
I get to Backa Palanka early evening and they allow me to pitch the tent at the Kayak club right opposite the bathing beach. I have to do this whilst being surrounded by about fifteen kids who want to know just about everything about England, David Beckham and Manchester United. Thank the Amida Buddha for summer school and all them trips to the United Stadion and museum. Thing is, I need them kids - they are the only way to communicate to the caretaker at the Kayak club who is extremely kind and puts what I take to be a Goulash in front of me. It dawns on me that I havnt spent any money on food yet since Ive entered Serbia...
Im off into town for some ice cream and on my return Im pulled out of my tent by a delegation of the local tourist office. More shots, beer and maps of the town. Apparently, Rackia connects people ( they burn this stuff themselves. I fear I might go blind ). Another late night...
