Passed KM 1580 at about eleven this morning. Means I have successfully completed the first 1000 k of this river. Celebrated by getting half a water melon and ate it all. Nice melon...
When I started at KM 2581.5 in Ulm I didnt think that Id be running into some more people from there a thousand kilometers down the river. Harta was founded by some folk from Ulm who came down the river same way as I did - by boat. However, this took place a while ago in 1723 and the little village has grown nicely into a place with three and a half thousand inhabitants. Apparently thered been more but the young people move away to the city for jobs. Same everywhere I guess.
Soon as I introduced myself to some people on their very nice beach it was all - beer, and yes weve been to Ulm last year and all in German albeit an old swabian accent which I did still manage to understand.
Well, hospitality knows no boundries here and I got my own house for the night. Thanks to Eric and Katy for the excellent pancakes.
