My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Australia | Saturday, August 14, 2010 | 5 photos

I took time off to go to my 'special' spot to stop smoking. I had 3 days with a 5km stretch (of some of the most beautiful and prehistoric coastline) on the Great Ocean Walk... completely to myself. Just me, the bare essentials and my camera. I had a lot of time to explore, meditate and take a few photos. It was quite an amazing, almost surreal experience.
I have driven around a lot of Australia and nearly ALL of Victoria on my trips into the wild.; many hiking, rock-climbing and kayaking adventures. Station Beach is still my favorite place. It's like another world down there... Petrified forests on the dunes, mineral water falls coming from the cliffs, wild surf and no-one for miles.
From the photos I took there, a selection was seen by a 'friend of a friend', who owned a gallery space and invited me to have a solo show.
Since then, I have a had another show (with my sister) and have set up a website (siddhartha.com.au). All of this has been done with very basic equipment and no training... just the passion.
To have the opportunity to do a photographic 'traineeship' with NG (let alone in Bhutan of all places)... quite liturally makes me dizzy with excitement. I would love to refine my art and get a proper understanding of what it takes to be able to be a professional photographer.
Also, I have spent many years studying and practicing 'Buddhism'... I was even a monk for 3 months. To be able to get over to Bhutan would be mind blowing! Culturally, socially, personally, geographically! A whole new world!
Mr. Edwards, I would get so much out of this; and would hopefully be able to use it to start a career.
(Plus, I don't think i'd be such a bad character to be stuck with for hours on end in the middle of absolute no-where.) ;o)

Thanks for your time.

-Siddhartha
