My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

TIS-SA-ACK: Originally named "Tis-sa-ack," by the Ahwahneechee people, meaning "Cleft Rock". Half Dome stands proud overlooking the valley. It’s face lays in shadow and looks as if someone has scooped as the name suggests half of the mountain away.

PINE VALLEY: Granite monoliths (including El Capitan and the iconic Half Dome in the distance) stand tall over the valley of pine trees, amongst other species that make up Yosemite Valley. The history in this valley is amazing. From the formation caused by the glacial period, to the Ahwahneechee stories of the mountains and Bridalveil Falls.

OUTSTANDING TREES: Extraordinarily, trees grow on the side of these granite cliff faces – their roots hold onto the cracks. As the tree and roots grow, the cracks get longer and wider. They may find it harder to survive, but their view would be amazing.
