"Imagination is the eye of the soul."
Joubert, Joseph
I have chosen to explore a place that is both familiar and new to all travellers. A place that offers exciting adventures and breathtaking landscapes, where you can experience the past and contemplate the future. My place is a book. I have visually investigated how a book can become a personal place; a place in which the viewer can discover who they are. I have experimented with the visual possibilities of photographing a simple object to communicate a complex narrative. As a visual artist I like photography as a conceptual storytelling form in which the viewer can reflect their own experience. What I’m looking for in my photographs is the essence of the object, place or person. The five images that I’ve taken explore the possibilities of depicting a place of imagination. I have experimented with showing the book as a landscape, a cityscape, an abstract form and a place of memory.
About me:
I am a visual artist and my work embodies and reflects my life’s purpose; the quest to find meaning. I am fascinated with the notion of journey; literally, metaphorically and spiritually. An ongoing interest in philosophy, history and mythology informs my interpretation and celebration of that journey.
I am passionate about art, travel and education and also work in international and bilingual schools presenting storytelling based art workshops to students of all ages in collaboration with performing artist Morgan Schatz Blackrose.
I have recently finished my BA in arts of which photography was a major component. I am looking for opportunities to advance my photography skills.
