My Scholarship entry - Taketa, the Small Mountain Town
Japan | Monday, January 14, 2013 | 5 photos
As an American living in a small farming town in Japan, I am never short on inspiring subject matter. My purpose here is to teach English to children, but the reason I came is to explore. I intend to learn the language, observe the culture, meet new people, try new things, and make a small dent in my long list of places to see.
My strong sense of wonder and adventurous spirit drive me to explore the unknown. I am most satisfied when seeking out a new place, camera at the ready. Photography allows me to record my experiences, capture the emotions of a place, and share them with those interested. Some of my fondest memories are exploring abandoned buildings in my hometown with a Pentax K1000.
This may sound overly pretentious, but it doesn't make it untrue; I am inspired by the world. The more I see of it the more fascinated I become and the more I long to see. A great photograph can share worlds unknown. I will never tire from learning to become a better photographer as I seek to capture the world’s rich colors, magnitudes, and wonders. Ultimately, through poignant and honest photography, I want to inspire others to explore the world. Thank you for this exceptional opportunity.
