My travel photography scholarship entry - The South Island

My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Worldwide | Friday, October 7, 2011 | 5 photos

My submitted photographs are from New Zealand’s South Island. The grandeur and spectacular landscape of this small island amazed and fascinated me, its beauty captivating. From Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park to Milford Sound, even though these are well visited destinations, felt a million miles from civilisation. Driving past endless expanses of farmland, the hills covered in new born lambs and calves, the landscape instils a feeling of infinite expanses of life and lush green fields.

In 2006 I discovered my love of travel and photography. I left Australia with a Panasonic Lumix digital camera and became obsessed with capturing the fascinating places that I encountered. Since then it has been an endless expedition to experience and capture the world. Three years ago I realised my desire to make photography my career. Since then I have thrown everything into learning all I can about what makes a great image. Part of this has been travelling to as many places as possible attempting to put into practice what I have learnt.

Photography for me is about capturing the beauty and essence of a place. I hope to show people the fascinating world we live in and why we should cherish it and not destroy it. The world is full of immense beauty and being able to share this with the public, and hopefully inspire them to care for the world we live in, I hope to make a difference to its future.

Being awarded the opportunity to assist in capturing the beauty of South Africa, while being mentored by Jason Edwards, would be an invaluable experience. It would allow me the chance to learn what it takes to achieve exceptional images that could possibly make a difference to our world and its future.
