Series on the Ghats & Ganga River in Varanasi

My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

India | Wednesday, July 3, 2013 | 5 photos

A lifelong multi-disciplinary artist, I am passionate about creating, learning and traveling. At 25 years, I am a choreographer living in Canada’s capital following an eight month backpacking trip through India, Southeast Asia and Europe. As a photographer, my passion lies in the power to isolate moments in time: for me, photography is a tool to inspire and educate; to provoke thought and promote community; and to unveil the extraordinary hidden in the ordinary. I am inspired by unique and expansive images of the natural world as well as the beauty, emotional weight and vulnerability of humanity. As an experienced traveler I am adaptable, respectful and focussed, experienced in maintaining an online travel blog, and as a photographer I am an avid learner, eager to expand my knowledge-base and technical skills. I possess an avid social and environmental conscience that propels my curiosity for documentary photography; this genuine interest makes me a fantastic candidate for this program. Please enjoy my series on Varanasi, India, highlighting the significance of the ghats that rise from the murky waters of the Ganga River and their impact on the lives of local worshippers.
