Travel Photography Scholarship 2013 - Greenland

My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Argentina | Monday, July 8, 2013 | 3 photos

I was born in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Hercegovina, but lived in Germany, US, Czech Republic and Argentina. Since I lost an initial sense of home at a young age, I realised that home for me is not a physical location, but a state of mind, one that allows me to place myself within any context and find a personal connection with my surroundings. I always had a passion for art but it wasn’t until I visited Buenos Aires in 2010 that I picked up camera and just started taking photos I loved. From that very moment, I knew this was for me. I wandered the streets of Buenos Aires for months thereafter, losing any sense of time. My photos reflect journeys through various places across the globe. The camera serves as a fixation point and window at the same time. It places me firmly into the new environment while allowing me to view the situation selectively. My surroundings change, but the perspective remains to be chosen by me. In many ways, the camera has become my home. My happiest moments come as a photographer and participant observer- fully immersed and constantly perceptive. With the scholarship, I hope to sharpen my observation skills and take a big leap to turn my passion into a profession.
