My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Reflective surfaces are amazing cause you can see several things, at different angles and perspectives within a smaller confine of space and time. These shiny monstrosities in NY are the perfect example of seeing more within a single shot. Reflections give a sense of depth and multiplicity, like having more than what is really there, which is what fascinated me.
Walking around Manhattan, there is lots you can look at, but rarely you get an opportunity to see deeper into things. Looking up is a luxury most of us cannot afford, as it requires lifting out heads from work. These photos were to give people a sense of appreciation of the small things that we pass by everyday.
I am from DaresSalaam, Tanzania. A computer engineer, with a love for pictures ever since I was younger. Back then, when you could take only a few pictures so you had to make them count and there were no fancy tricks after taking the picture, and that has sort of ingrained itself in me to date. I like seeing things differently, odd angles, vantage points. Out of the box photos, something not everyone with a camera can think of, just to add a little flare into the composition.
I hate editing my photos, I had heard someone say, editing is like killing an unborn child. Taking pictures using the cameras capabilities is what I am still building a capacity on. In Tanzania, I can be considered a professional, but I am far from that. I only hope and pray that I get to work with people who have far greater knowledge and insight, who are willing to share, to make this passion a reality. I am a quick learner and always receptive to new ideas and open to challenges. Horizons are for those who wish to touch the sky, and I want a shot at that.
