Travel Photography Scholarship 2012entry
Timor-Leste | Tuesday, November 13, 2012 | 5 photos
I am a restless spirit, forever drawn to exploring this wide, wonderful world. Over the past 10 years I have lived and worked in 10 cities across five continents: my hometown, Sydney, Australia; Salamanca, Spain; Monterrey & Mexico City, Mexico; New York & Los Angeles, USA; Phnom Penh, Cambodia; Lima, Peru; Dili & Oecusse, Timor-Leste.
To be precise, I should really say nine cities and one sleepy little enclave, because Oecusse, Timor-Leste is the antithesis of the bright lights of big cities like New York and Sydney.
I was lucky to be able to call Oecusse home in 2011 when I was based with a local NGO, Fundasaun Esperansa Enklave Oecusse (FEEO) supporting a project making life-changing technologies available to remote communities. I was touched and inspired by the people I met and by the beauty of Oecusse - a place few people have the opportunity to visit.
I have worked in the international development sector for the past four years, and I would love to improve my photography skills in order to better communicate about life in the developing world. I don't have any photography training and use very basic cameras, and realise I have so much to learn.
