My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

My name is Ozan and I'm from Turkey. I started photography in my highschool photography class. Thanks to my teacher, who strongly believed in photojournalism and Magnum school, I built up my photography on this style. That's why I started with black and white films and went on in black and white in digital.
What interests me the most is what happens in the street; how people walk, how people act, how they talk, how clouds move and alter the light...I think this is how a photograph "happens". You need to be there when things begin to come into the frame, slowly adjusts themselves and become the picture. At that very moment, you have to press the shutter and make the image out of the picture. It is like we live in a world of pictures and in that tiny instant, the photographer grabs one and makes it an image, a photograph to tell a story. That's what I think photography is.
The experience I will have from this scholarship will be a milestone in my photography. Nat. Geo. is a foundatiton that seeks for the reality and discover what is hidden in the deep edges of the world. It would perfectly fit to my view of photograpy, and in return I will contribute to the new discoveries of NG.
