Santa Fe All the Way.

Of course I was excited. Wouldn’t anyone be? Santa Fe has long been known for it’s beautifully rocky terrain and stunning sunsets and after all, who am I to deprive myself of such beauty? But there were more. So much more.
We decided to drive from Los Angeles. A proper road trip complete with snacks and a killer sound track and of course the all important, perfect travel partner. Just over twelve hours later we arrived very ready for a hot shower and a soft bed. Tomorrow, we thought, we’ll hit the floor running, cramming all the sights into our 5 day stay.
Every morning we woke up refreshed and energized. Some said it might have been an unusually good reaction to the 7000 ft altitude. Others speculated about the vortexes found in the earth in New Mexico. Our chatty waiter at Clafoutis French bakery and Restaurant (where every morning we had the best coffee and croissants this side of the NM border) assured us it’s their little spot that is to thank. Whatever the reason may have been, there is a natural energy in Santa Fe that is hard to compare with anywhere else in the world I have been. Things feel effortless, creative and worry free. One thing is certain: this place is magical.
The art scene caters for every taste and genre, in every medium imaginable. Christmas Eve for example there is a very well supported Art Walk along the quaint Canyon Road. Food, mulled wine, Christmas carols and art, all rolled into a very tasty, festive, snowy Burrito.
I was surprised to find several fine dining options to choose from in addition to the more casual eateries. We opted for Geronimo’s, which was simply impeccable. For the meat lovers there is Elk tenderloin on the menu and seems to be their signature dish. Tender it certainly was, served with roasted garlic mashed potatoes, sugar snap peas, smoky bacon in a creamy brandy and mushroom sauce.
Santa Fe is a wonderful destination for all walks of life and interests. Skiing is spectacular during the winter months with plenty of powdery snow trails for all ages. Make sure to pack your camera as the views from the slopes are quite literally tops.
It saddened me to leave, and that very rarely happens. There is an authentic charm to this old world town and though generally a little pricey, it’s a sure must visit. If you love beauty and tranquility, subtly nestled among epic mountains and immaculately lit by a lazy rays of sun, then Santa Fe is just the place for you, your family and your dearest friends.
