While waiting for our plane at JFK, our gate was next to one for a flight to the Middle East. We were watching Hilary's acceptance speech on TV, and I couldn't help but note the juxtaposition of Hilary speaking for women's equality while sitting next to a group of Yemeni women covered from head to toe in black, with only their eyes showing. I wondered how our lives are different and how they are similar. We live a sheltered life ourselves, ignorant of their lives. But I can say for certain that I am grateful for the freedoms we have as women in America, despite the enduring inequalities that women face every day.
