My Epiphany, Ladakh

My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

India | Friday, December 7, 2012 | 5 photos

Photographers often believe that they're storytellers and for the most part they are. I was drawn to photography not to tell stories, but be a part of them. Traveling to distant places and observing different cultures has allowed me to have experiences I could only have imagined. I truly believe that being immersed in the story allows me to capture it in ways I simply couldn't as an observer. Ultimately though, what good is being part of a story if you can't convey it effectively to others? This is why I've always wished to travel and take photographs, in order to tell the story as I've experienced it. Using my photographs to essentially bridge gaps and bring awareness to others who haven't had the privilege of being there as I have. If given the opportunity to be a part of this assignment I'm confident that I'd be able to bring something unique to the table with my differed approach. I also hope to gain the essential honing and refinement of my skills with the mentoring that would be available on this trip. However, the most valuable takeaway for me, would be the opportunity to be a part of yet another story that I will convey through the photographs that I bring back. Thank you.
