Human settlement in Johannesburg dates back 25 000 years and the buildings are centuries old. This is a deserted building in the middle of the hustling city, but light-hearted beauty can be found in the contrast of the newfound advertisements placed near a building that is so historic in stature. © Robynne Peatfield 2012

Maphikelela allowed me to photograph him while he rested on the streets of Johannesburg. He is homeless and finds a place to sleep where he can while looking for a job. The BMW parked near him is a tangible symbol of the inequality found in Johannesburg and South Africa. © Robynne Peatfield 2012
