My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Serbia | Sunday, November 18, 2012 | 5 photos

Hello, my name is Jasenka and I am from Serbia. What brings me here is my strong desire to bring photography from just a hobby to something more serious. I am also interested in journalism, so in the last couple of years I was trying to merge these two fields of my interests - I wanted my photos not just to be beautiful, but also to have some effect on people's minds and hearts. It took me a lot of courage to start doing street photography, but once I became skilled and confident enough, I was enchanted by the power of common street scenes and common people faces, which were able to tell so many stories and evoke so many memories. When I heard about this scholarship, I thought that I would regret it forever if I don't give it a try - there is very specific kind of photography that I like the most, and it is indeed the story-telling one. My entry here consists of a couple of photos I took in Roma people quarters, which are common in northeast Serbia. I was very curious about living conditions in these quarters, so I decided to go there and bring my camera, in case something interesting catches my attention. I am happy to share my work with you and I hope that it has some value.
