My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

The shown photographs have been taken in a small town in Transylvania called Sfantu Gheorghe. I've been there and at a few more places as part of my diploma in photography. The main reason to go there was to see and document the life and culture of the Roma living on the margins of society. Being such a huge minority in Europe, the Roma nearly got any attention until France's deportation and their social and economic possibilities in life – especially in Eastern Europe – are more than limited. Often locals evens have an open hatred for them. Therefore my goal was to raise awareness about this immense and nearly forgotten fringe group. And this part – to show people how other and especially smaller communities are managing their living – has always been a concern of mine. That's one reason why I would be highly suited to travel with you to Bhutan. Besides that I have always been attracted to mountainous regions and grew up with more than just hills. As I'm currently living in Austria, the country with the apparent highest number of mountains compared to its size, you can believe me that I am in really good hiking condition. After having finished my studies now this would be a great chance for me to discover how the business as a travel photographer works and gain further experiences.
