`Palanok` Castle
One sunny spring day my family and I visited `Palanok` castle searching for fresh impressions. We got what we were looking for.
…We go to the upper castle (the most antique part of the building), and the first thing that we notice is the monument of Fyodor Koriatovych - a Ruthenian prince, a famous owner of the castle. There`s the superstition that if you touch his thumb and make a wish it will be fulfilled without fail. I wish to have magic powers like Harry Potter`s. You need to wait 10-15 days until your dream comes true, but mine is still unrealized. I guess my desire is so serious and important that it just demands more time.
I fling coins into the prominent draw-well looking downward. You can descent into the well by steps and go to the Latorica River using the secret passage. If the castle had been captured, the prince and his folks would have escaped. By the way, contemplate how hard digging into the mountain was.
The small patio, where we are heading next, is surrounded with two and three-storied palaces, where the proprietor lived, and is protected by two bastions. However, we are allowed to attend only one. The chapel was added to the palaces later. We`re praying in the place where only aristocracy was communing with God.
The guide leads us to the wide and dark passage-trip. We`re standing inside, and she is telling us how the metal portals were sunk, and the boiling water, hot resin and burning torch were thrown out on the heads of unwelcome guests. It`s cruel and I feel myself much better when we get out of this place.
The room of the tortures impresses me most of all. It`s scarring and I don`t like the view. There are a lot of articles, which I don`t recognize and don`t want to.
To make your journey better I recommend choosing the right day for it. For example, you can attend it during the famous festival `Red wine` or during the faerie show - `The castle games`, where the knights are holding fights.
My trip was marvelous, but if I could make it different, I would change one thing: I would stay longer. I was less than two hours in the castle and viewed him skin-deep. Keep in mind: one-day trip is not an option, if your intention is to plunge into the medieval atmosphere deeper.
And the last tip is – just be in a good mood! Because, you know, you will see the grandiose combination of human`s and nature`s masterpiece! You will definitely remember this trip for whole life!
