Here, Shakeelbhai has been a potter since he was 9 years old. He is a fourth generation potter and lives here with his family of six.

In India, for centuries, not much has changed in the technique of pottery.
In the tiny village of Lothal, in Gujarat, is one of the most important excavation sites of the Indus Valley Civilisation. Pieces of clay pots found here date back as far as 2400 BC.

“Earth, water and your hands, that’s all you need,” philosophises Shakeelbhai, while working on his manual potter’s wheel that costs a mere 1,200 Rupees ($20). And that’s all the help he’s managed from the Government in all these years.
