My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
Tanzania | Sunday, June 30, 2013 | 5 photos
Between 9 and 5 workdays you will find me sitting behind a desk working a job which although I am grateful to have is merely a means to an end, the end being to travel and to take photos. I know you probably hear this often but travel has made me a better person, changed the way I think and the way I live.
My first camera was only purchased a few years ago and at this point photography is my hobby. I have spent hours studying photographic books and YouTube videos learning the technical aspects and then hours again in the field taking photos.
This year I am turning 30 and I am in a mundane job with a degree in Zoology which I cannot use. I feel I am at a point in my life where I need to make changes and would love to pursue a career with a camera.
I know not everyone is fortunate enough to experience different places, cultures and wildlife and I want to be able to take a photo which makes the person feel like they were there.
What really drives me is seeing a person’s reaction to a photo, be it wonderment, sorrow, joy or reflection. A photo that provokes emotion or makes the person stop and think “wow” is a picture I would be proud of and would be the best reward I could take.
The scholarship has arrived at the perfect time as I know I would benefit to be mentored by such an experienced photographer and open the door to a world I believe I can contribute to positively.
