My Scholarship entry - LaLa Land

USA | Sunday, November 23, 2014 | 5 photos

My childhood was spent living&visiting cities around the world, not only was this a huge privilege, but it was also what planted the seed of curiosity about the world around me.As an only child I found most of my adventures were alone, the only way to share the moments I had experienced was to capture it through disposable cameras. The exploration of these adventures led me to find what came so naturally to me,the ability to tell a story through my eyes. The streets were my classroom, sunlight, shadows, colors of buildings, people, tunnels below the city, rooftops, abandoned train stations, houses left splattered in graffiti, to unsanctioned cycling street races, it all became a visual addiction. My approach defied the preset model of what culture was in LA & as I began sharing the photos through IG I received an amazingly positive response from many people. This communication made me want to speak through my images even louder. My passion to tell stories through my photographs is what made me gravitate towards photojournalism. If chosen, I know that this scholarship will give me the creative and practical tools to pursue my dream living my life as a photojournalist for National Geographic.
