When I die all I need on my tombstone is
HERE LIES RICHARD BRASH
SURFER TRAVELLER
ADVENTURER
I live on the Mornington Peninsula one hour south of Melbourne. I have a wife and two children and will soon turn 45. I have spent all my working life as a builder and it is time for a change. I am now daring to dream that I could turn my passions into a career. As boys, my brother and I jumped into the water at every opportunity. We loved underwater documentaries and became obsessed with sharks. Two years ago I ticked off number one on my 'to do' list and went on a cage dive with Rodney Fox and his Great White Sharks. Before heading off I bought a G9 with underwater housing. The trip was increadible and the look on face of the man who developed my photos was priceless! I came away with a new passion - photography. Since then I judge a dive by the photos taken. I have upgraded to a 550d and love the challenge of full manual. It can be frustrating, but the rewards are great. My photos here were taken 40 minutes from where I live. Most people don't realise the wonders that lie beneath the water. The weird and crusty crabs are my favourite. In my twenties I spent 10 months travelling from Cairo to Cape Town. I saw gorillas in Zaire and woke up to a lion print outside my tent in Kenya. How do you describe Africa in a few short words? A man in Zimbabwe told me "You can leave Africa, but Africa never leaves you." How true. I have an album of favourite shots and love watching people's reactions as they flick through it. I want to inspire people through my photos and have picked up many tips along the way but to fulfill my ambition I crave some real mentoring. I would soak up every moment of a scholarship.
