My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Whenever we seek a deeper understanding of what it means to be human we are bravely putting ourselves in a beautiful kind of vulnerability that makes it possible for intrinsic growth. Photography is my vehicle for growth. It is more to me than capturing an image. The connections made through photography are not only between photographer/subject or image/viewer but extend to a greater community of subjects and their stories and paths. Through this scholarship, I hope to gain the skills to further my career photography and human rights. Making connections between different groups of people - this is what I strive to do with my life. As a photographer I know I am a diamond in the rough. I am incredibly humbled by the amount I know I must learn, but am more than ready and willing to do this. My eye can be refined - but my heart is what I am selling here. Anyone can calculate a composed photo, but translating a feeling through photography requires talent in empathy. It requires bravery and also an element of vulnerability. These I have. Choose me. Because fortune favors the brave. Coming out of an experience with wider eyes and a deeper heart – this to me is fortune. And I want it.
