My Photo scholarship 2010 entry
Turkey | Monday, September 6, 2010 | 5 photos
On a recent trip to Europe I spent four days in Istanbul. Although my second trip to Europe, it was my first to Istanbul - and I was kicking myself for not going the first time. Although challenging, I tried to capture all things, big and small, that made up the beautiful city of Istanbul.
The photos I have submitted are the ones I think best describe the diversity and sums up the city of my time in Istanbul. The one of the man selling bread was taken right outside my hostel; the night scene was taken from my hostel rooftop bar; the photo of the trailer full of buckets was taken on my hostel street. Without leaving my accommodation I was surrounded with opportunities to capture Istanbul; a photographers dream!
I am currently in my second year of Journalism at the University of Queensland, in Brisbane, Australia. Without realising until deep into first year, I was doing a degree that could easily let me combine three of my life’s enjoyments – writing, travelling and more recently, photography. I have lived and worked in England, travelled Europe twice and been to Sri Lanka and New Zealand, so I am reasonably travelled for a 21 year old. I have had my first piece of writing published, a step towards helping my career. My next goal is to delve deeper into my photography. I own a Cannon 500D and have a desire to learn more. There is only so much I can learn by myself without compromising my other loves. This experience, if chosen, would not only improve a hobby skill of mine, but more importantly, would broaden my portfolio for a career in journalism.
