The City of Love

My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Worldwide | Sunday, October 17, 2010 | 5 photos

Paris is known around the world as the ‘City of Love’. I myself recently fell under its magical spell, spending a month intoxicated by love. Paris in August is truly at its best – the city experiences long, warm days and the whole population stops working for a month. Like the beautiful, bright flowers of the Jardin du Luxembourg, love blossoms everywhere. Couples walk hand-in-hand along the street, kiss passionately in the public gardens and attach locks symbolizing their love to the bridge known as Pont des Arts. My photos are an attempt to capture both the ordinary and special loving moments that appear around the city on a daily basis.
I would love to be chosen for the World Nomads’ travel photography scholarship as I have thus far had little opportunity to learn the art of photography, despite a burning desire to become a travel photographer in the future. While travelling I usually take a compact digital camera, as I have never had the luxury of time to concentrate on taking the perfect shot. My time in Paris was the first trip that I used a digital SLR camera, and while I am aware I have a lot to learn, I was proud of my efforts. Being given the opportunity to be mentored by a professional photographer whilst in an exotic country like Bhutan would be a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I would learn so much from and always cherish.
