Caught between two cities

My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Macau | Thursday, July 4, 2013 | 3 photos

I left Macau at the age of three for New Zealand, and over the years I have returned several times to Macau each time with growing significance. On my latest return in June, I got my first DSLR camera, and for the first time I was able to capture the city lights of Macau that have so captivated me. The similarities of Macau and New Zealand are little, however funnily enough the Skytower remains similar in both places.

Though Macau has increased my interest in lights, and of the city, New Zealand has nurtured my interest in the silence of nature. A special memory I have is one of travelling to the South Island with my family, where we went into an isolated spot on the shores of Lake Tekapo. There I experienced an emptiness of sound that made the silence appear almost heavy. This experience is one of many that has nurtured a dream I have to study and photograph wildlife and its environments in a isolated place void of human interference. I have a specific interest in photographing animals and landscapes.

That is why I believe that this Greenland Travel Photography Scholarship would be an exciting adventure to both improve in photography skills and to partially fulfill my dream.
