My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

I have always been shy and, for that, have been much more observative than talkative. Since I’ve discovered photography as a mean of communication, at the age of 19, it seemed to me like the perfect way to show places, people and stories and, at the same time, tell a bit about myself. By that time, I was an Engineering student, and started photographing with my father’s 1970s film camera. Then, communication became exciting to me; I quit Engineering and began studying Journalism.
What I really love about photography is how subjective it is. It is not about telling absolute truths, but showing something real and also how I feel about it. Learning how to explore exposure and composition and use that to tell my impressions is delicious.
Even though I have worked as a journalist – writing – for the past six years, I actually want to be a photographer. Beyond the fact that it is easier for me to talk through images, there is something else: when a journalist, you can give your impressions on the subject, of course, but texts are usually similar and savorless - you can’t always write beautifully. I love beauty. And images can fill magazines and newspapers with beauty and poetry.
