My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

By conventional standards I am at times called a man of few words. But the clichéd phrase “a picture is worth a 1000 words” has oft defined my thoughts quite aptly. ‘Dependable’ is the most prominent positive trait associated with me. I am also of the spiritual and curious kind, and like to form my own opinions about life and things associated with it. That said, I am a bit of a perfectionist.
Starting as a childhood interest, photography has grown from from a mere hobby to a means of expression. It has evolved with me, teaching me a little bit each time. I’ve taken to associating relevant songs to each of my photographs within the captions. I have chosen some photos from my photo diary, depicting life at Pilani, which is a rather mundane yet pretty place. I'm studying engineering here.
Photography can win you friends in the most unlikely of places. I love travelling- it provides the chance to explore new experiences, and more importantly, new cuisines. Over many weekend trips, I’ve explored much of Rajasthan on motor-bike, pitching canvas tents beside camels with a group of my photographer friends calling ourselves the “Phookas”. Last summer at Goa, not having our own bikes, we boarded buses and decided when to get off by coin toss.
I tend to fall in love with what I click- something that I refer to with friends as ‘clicking with my heart’. My current love is the golden hour, and previous loves have included birds, puppies and the of course Pilani. This does not mean that I ‘get over’ my loves easily. So I inject this romance into all my photographs, and my true joy is when not just my friends, but complete strangers also associate their feelings with my photos.
Photography is the art of seeing every narrow window of opportunity to capture the beauty of a moment.
