My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited: Western Montana

My family has always been of the outdoorsy type. I fell in love with the idea of wildlife photography in second grade after the release of the Nickelodeon cartoon, The Wild Thornberries, (the main characters traveled the globe filming wildlife documentaries). I received my first camera in Jr. High and was nearly never caught without it (the one time I had left it home, we ran into a very photogenic tornado!) Now I am in my senior year of college studying (to the shock of those in my home town) not photography, but forestry and wildlife management. Working in the environmental sciences has opened the door to many travel experiences for me including field research courses in Montana, studying abroad in Iceland, and an internship tracking bobcats and bears in southern Ohio. These places have produced some of my favorite prints, and I would like to continue to take pictures as I develop academically through graduate school, future field research projects and use these photographs to build on the value the general public places on our natural resources. Receiving this scholarship would give me a more conventional educational background in what I have only been able to use as a hobby.
