My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited - Topolobampo

I love photography because it is so subjective. I fell in love with photography at 16 after taking pictures of lightning storms during the monsoons in Phoenix, Arizona. I soon decided an understanding of technique was essential if I wanted to get better and so I enrolled in a photography college. I worked in productions and editorial for years before the urge to travel caught up with me. I got a job on a cruise ship as a photographer and set sail. It was in my travels that learned how we as humans share so much in common yet are so different. I found that I had a view on the world that was evolving because I was learning more about it as I was being exposed to more of it. I learned that I could have a voice in my photography and create images that would portray humanity plainly and honestly. I hope to learn to avoid taking images that are meaningless and predictable. Instead I want to learn from a seasoned world traveler in the field how to show, through my images, how other people and cultures live and do it in a way that shows the essence of their character. I believe my willingness to learn and travel experience make me an ideal candidate.
