My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Pakistan | Monday, January 14, 2013 | 5 photos

Kia ora, my name is Campbell MacDiarmid and I've spent much of the last five years exploring the world. In another life I trained as a lawyer but soon realised that I needed a creative outlet. However from my legal background I've retained the desire to make a positive impact on the world.

I now work as a print journalist but would like to expand my photographic skills to the point where photography was more than just a hobby.

With the photographs I take I aim to reveal the common humanity of my subjects. Rather than emphasising the exotic, my goal is for the viewer to feel a kinship with those photographed.

In terms of travel photography I try to highlight the impact that travellers can have on the places they visit - both positive and negative - and to instill a sense of responsibility for their travels.

I would love the opportunity to gain experience as a National Geographic photographer on assignment and improve my craft being mentored under Jason Edwards. I would hope to progress from taking interesting photographs to mastering the technical and creative aspects of photography to enable me to craft moving narratives.

Sincerely

Campbell MacDiarmid
