My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Australia | Friday, January 4, 2013 | flickr photos

As a child I got lost in stories, spending hours with my nose buried in a book, living in the stories brought to life by words on the page. As a young adult I discovered the joy of photography as storytelling. I took a disposable camera traveling & could not stop taking photos. Each time I traveled, I took my camera & kept taking photos. Then I started blogging & sharing stories of my journeys. The excitement that I got from sharing "that moment" with people was addictive. I finally invested in a digital camera, put it on auto & started looking at the world around me with different eyes. I love being at events with high emotion & capturing the movement & the intensity. I also love quiet moments & showing the peace to be found in a quiet space or location. Stories exist in every-day moments as well as ones of high intensity - no matter the moment, the story is there to be told. I want to learn how to better use a camera so that I can tell a better story. A more expressive, technically excellent picture, is a story that has more hope of touching more people. There are so many stories waiting to be told & this scholarship would give me more tools & opportunity to tell them.
