My Scholarship entry - I-70 West

I fell in love with photography in the darkroom in high school, and continued my passion in college. After my mother passed away in middle school, photography was the first activity that allowed me to see beauty again. With photography I could see beauty in anything, even a piece of trash on the street. Captured in the right light, at the right angle, I could make anything magnificent.
Since college, I've worked to balance a full time job while building my portfolio. I've never worked harder, had sleepless nights editing, and grew more in my life. On my 26th birthday I quit my job, and in Jan. of 2015 I will travel to Cambodia to work with an NGO. During my time abroad, I will document the organization's work in local communities. Weather it is working with an NGO, reporting the world's epidemics, or telling an individual's unknown story - I hope to use my photography to capture truth.
The opportunity to work with Jason Edwards would be life changing. His work is not only compositionally stunning, but tells a much deeper story that captivates the viewer. I aim to learn from his experiences and grow toward a product that can inspire individuals to see beauty in all aspects of life.
