pinguinos

You dont want to hear any more about the non existant luggage on which I unsuccesfully wasted my time today. Instead, how about a story about penguins? Having heard I won´t be working with them in Antarctica, I signed up for a tourist trip out to see a penguin colony, and the bird men, always eager to watch birds, came too. it was a bumpy ride for an hour along a gravel track. we saw a llama in a field and a big bird that looked like an emu. And then a walk along the coast with plants I´d never seen before, and there they were, about 100 penguins on the beach and rushing to and from the burrows in the sand, about 300m from the beach. They were in a terrible hurry looked really funny. A few stood still with their backs to the wind and preened themselved for 10 mins at a time, and others arched their back, put their beak up to the sky and bellowed. Its a territorial call apparently. It was great to see them. It was extremely windy- Birdman told me its just a foretaste of the windiness to be experienced in Byers.
