A few years ago we set off in our converted wheelchair accessible MCI bus in search of a winter home away from the cold Canadian winter.
Our bus has only a few electric heaters so we need to be somewhere that does not get too cold at night. Just too much steel and glass to keep warm! That eliminated such US spots as Arizona. We did stay in the Florida Keys for 2 winters but finding an affordable spot for a 40 foot long bus became increasingly difficult. RV campground are being bought up for condos.
Next came southern Texas, the Rio Grande Valley. Lot's of friendly RV parks, although does occasionally dip into the 40's some nights.
Then came Mexico, from the Gulf beaches to the Pacific below Mazatlan, Mexico proved beautiful, warm and friendly.
After meeting another Canadian couple in Mexico who had just spent a year in their RV in Belize we headed in that direction. Enroute we thought we should take a swing through the Yucatan peninsula to see the various Mayan ruins and the Caribbean.
Arriving in an eclectic RV commnity south of Playa del Carmen we pulled in for what was to be a week...and that was it!
The water was that beautiful blue-green color, edged with white sandy beaches and palm trees. One can rent a site (year round) and the build a palapa that provides shade and whatever creature comforts one cares to add. Many have outdoor kitchens and bathrooms done in colorful Mexican tile.
We never did get to Belize. The Mayan Riviera has been our winter home for the past three years, and hopefully will continue to be for some time to come.
You can "Google" PaaMul for additional photos as it has a restaurant, hotel, dive shop and cabanas in addition to the RV park.
