My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Worldwide | Sunday, October 17, 2010 | 5 photos

People may think that posting pictures of Bhutan is suicidal as the judges may question why would I want to go back. Bhutan has left itself a special place in my heart.
I have lived all my life on a concrete jungle, a city built on an island. Travelling to the Himalayas was eye opening, the raw beauty and spiritual place totally had me captivated. The main purpose of the trip was to complete the Jumolhari Trek which lasted over 8 days, reaching up to 4770m. I felt so small and humbled by the beauty of nature everyday. I am an amateur in photography and the pictures I have chosen are to show everyone “ Bhutan through my eyes.”
1) I will never forget the smile on the baby girl's face and the light in her eyes she had a bite of our kitkat bar. Their simplicity and contentment makes Bhutanese the happiest people in the world.
2) Unzipping the tent each morning was like opening presents during christmas. You never know if the clouds will unveil and the mountains will peek out.
3) This chestnut brown horse grazing was one of the last scenes I had to say farewell to during the last day of my trek.
4) Although there were hundreds of Buddhist devotees, mostly old people and children, this man caught my eye. I was observing him making countless rounds around the stupa, chanting silently with immense concentration and sincerity.
5) The majestic Jichu Drakey piercing the clear blue sky. It was a day to rest and acclimatize to the altitude. Our bodies were aching and I could hear my heart pounding. But looking at the symmetrical cone shaped peak, it was all worth it.
I love travelling. I love Bhutan. I love to travel to places that are off the roads and I hope that by winning this scholarship, I’ll be able to share the beautiful things I have seen by capturing them on photographs.
