southbound train

Finally I write another entry. Have been avoiding computers due to the slowness and the heat but today it has rained and the temperature is beautiful. I am writing this from Railay Beach, near Krabi in southern Thailand. After 1 week in Bangkok we escaped the chaotic craziness and headed south on an overnight train to Surat Thani. It is a 12 hr journey, so we were glad we had booked sleeping compartments. It was a comfy journey though didn't get to see much of the passing landscapes due to the darkness of night. We arrived at 7am and were hearded off onto a bus before we had a chance to think. Then another 4 hr journey before we arrived in Krabi. Nice little town with beautiful scenery. We stayed just one night...most of it spent in a tattoo parlour while Aaron got attacked with a bamboo stick. Next day we caught another bus/ferry/ferry to arrive on Koh Lanta. It is a beautiful island, very quiet as it is low season at the moment. We stayed for 1 week at Lanta Emerald Bungalows which was a little piece of paradise. Days were spent eating, sleeping and swimming. Although the water resembled a warm bath ?! We hung out with some beautiful people, and the guys who ran the bar were lovely and friendly too. We went and watched a local Thai soccer match on the beach and also went to an opening night of a new bar. Lots of people celebrating, drinking Thai whisky, singing Thai songs and also badly translated English ones! Yesterday we left Lanta...bus/ferry/ferry.....back to Krabi. Then through a series of lovely events, we ended up on a long boat (beautiful wooden boat with motor on back) on a magical journey to Railay. So here we are. Went on another magical long boat journey today, out to see some islands, snorkelling, swimming, climbing....
