My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Malaysia | Friday, July 5, 2013 | flickr photos

In 2010, during my visual anthropology studies, focusing on community-based conservation, I was humbled to realize how little I knew about the biocultural diversity of the world. Then, while volunteering for NGOs connected to my school, I have also discovered the life-path that I want to take with photography.

I want to develop my style of photography by combining my interest in preserving biocultural diversity and my desire to see as much of the world as I can. With awe-inspiring compositions, I wish to capture the stories of nature and of underprivileged communities not just for future generations but also to awaken consciences of the current generation and thus encourage actions to mitigate the damage of rapid globalization and development. Eventually, I wish to reach a level where I am capable of inspiring and mentoring other people, especially those in underprivileged indigenous communities.

Jason, your 22-hour workdays sound very daunting! Yet, I am eager to take that challenge for they also mean more hours to squeeze out every possible bit of mentorship from decades of your experience. If you see the potential in me, help me reach my goal. I will work hard to deserve it.
