My Photo scholarship 2011 entry
Australia | Tuesday, November 8, 2011 | 5 photos
I completed studies in the area of built environment and design in 2004. I spent four years working as an urban designer before deciding to try exploding career opportunities in photography. I recently completed a diploma in Photoimaging.
I enjoy capturing things that seems so ordinary but yet beautiful. Simply the sunshine and blue sky, we are all too busy with our lives to slow down to appreciate these things. A person seems ordinary, while an image can magically capture a story in depth. There is always a moment, a choice, results in an image that touches your heart. Sometimes I feel lost chasing the moments to take the photo. I believe this is the skill I have to work on.
The one year diploma course taught me basic photography skills. One year is a short time which I found it difficult to achieve my artistic development. I am hoping to get this scholarship and gain experience that I would never be able to gain from school. The opportunity of going to Africa with Jason Edwards will help me to open up a new genus, a new world.
Giving up a stable job to chase the dream of photography was a big decision for me which to date I am not sure if it is really going to happen. This ensures my motivation for new opportunities and challenges. With my enthusiasm and maturity, I believe Jason will have a great time working with me.
The series of photos I am submitting are of my friend Piers. I have known him for a year and fascinated by his confident and his own philosophy of the meaning of life. Growing up in Sydney, Piers calls himself the Mystic Goth. The images contrast his rebelliousness and the suburbia culture.
