Shepherds of Changthang

My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

India | Tuesday, July 2, 2013 | 5 photos

My interests lie in the study of societies living outside the realm of ‘modern life’. I have begun two projects in the Himalayan region of Ladakh. The first is an exploration into the life of Nomadic Shepherds. This project is in a very nascent stage, I spent some time with a few families, and will be returning this year to make further headway into a serious documentation about their way of life. The second is a personal study of individual significance. Using close portraits and large open landscapes, I question of the value our existence holds.

I have been working with multiple formats and varied subjects. The workshop would give me an opportunity to better understand how to blend formats and adjust my style to specific situations.

I have reached a point as a photographer where I require professional interaction to move forward and understand where I stand as an image maker, from a perspective that is larger than that which I have access to.

The opportunity to ideate and visualize with a great mentor, and work alongside an image maker like Jason, would allow me to grow as a photographer and human being in ways that cannot be quantified.
