My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

One year ago I decided I was going to do something different. I sold my house and quit my job at a luxury hotel. My possessions now consisted of just 2 small carry-on size bags, one with my clothes and and toiletries, the other with camera gear.

I walked into a camera store and asked for a basic starter SLR camera. Formally trained in hospitality I knew nothing about settings, shutter-speed or composition. The weeks leading up to my departure I wandered my home town, day by day and even in the middle of the night, snapping photo after photo in attempts to self-teach the art of photography. Something I must admit seems like a life-long task, but am making gains progressively.

After 5 months of travel, 14 countries and over 10,000 photos taken I feel like his is something that is more then a hobby. I had a fear of leaving my comfort zone and a wild dream of wandering the planet taking photographs of landscapes, weather, people, the food they eat and animals that surround them. Friends and family had similar fears and dreams of mine, and with the photos I take I hope to show them that the life you dream of and the unknown sights of the world are there if you simply attempt it.
