My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

A decade of tertiary study gave me the novelty of being able to call myself a rocket scientist. But then life delivered me a not too subtle message that I knew nothing about the world. It was life and those who lived it that suddenly became the greater mystery. I found it fascinating that a single image could change the world.
Armed with a dSLR, I went travelling. I tried my hand at everything I could, landscapes while hiking the glacial forged terrain of Chilean Patagonia, the unique wildlife of the Galapagos Islands, the faces of the villagers of Quilotoa in the Andean highlands.
Dance photography became a passion. Dance events are often not well lit, the subject matter very fast and the mood spoilt by flash. I learnt to compromise, to sacrifice technical quality to capture something “real”.
I look forward to understanding the stories of the places and creating images that do those stories justice. After having read Jason’s views on the changing nature of photography in the world I think he would be the perfect mentor for me. This Travel Photography Scholarship represents the perfect next step in my evolution.
