My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
Peru | Friday, July 5, 2013 | 5 photos
This past February I travelled to Jangas Peru on a volunteer service trip and worked with a local NGO to serve elderly community members. The trip was amazing, from the breath-taking views in the Andes to the genuine connections I was able to make with locals in a country completely foreign to me.
But, when I returned from Peru, I realized how hard it was to explain my life-altering trip to others – so I turned to my photographs. I learned a very valuable lesson that inspires me every time I pick up my camera – that a photograph has the ability to do more justice to an experience than words can ever do.
My passion for photography has only grown from there. I have no formal training - I go with my gut and hope for the best. This is why I am applying for this scholarship. I want to learn. I want to improve. I would feel extremely privileged to have the opportunity to work with Jason and learn how to capture the moments many people miss or never get the chance to see firsthand. My dream is to alter perspectives through photographs; winning this contest would help me turn my passion into a reality.
