My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Canada | Wednesday, July 3, 2013 | 5 photos

Jason,

I was in the fifth grade when Steve McCurry's Afghan girl first stared at me. The image struck me with curiosity and connected me to her despite our distance. Her accusing green eyes made me aware of my blessings. My photography is driven by images like these which can amazingly pause and compel via their simplicity.

I've explored many genres, though it's travel photography that I call home. Through it I can realize my potential as a world citizen, by responsibly communicating that we're all citizens of the world, and that world, is awesome.

Many hours were spent understanding your assignment, thinking, debating, curating images, shooting new ones, re-shooting, writing and re-writing to craft potential submissions. There were a thousand No's in this process before the Yes you see here. I’ve never done anything like this, and in the end I discovered something that floored me. I discovered work that I love.

Although late, I'm both thankful this passion wasn't found any later and determined to improve by exploring all possible paths. An internship with you would be an incredible next step.

Thanks for this opportunity and all you’ve already taught me.
