Documentary Scholarship 2011 entry

I’ve been a resident of New Zealand for over a decade but I’d never gotten a chance to see the country so a few months ago I packed a backpack and set off to explore the archipelago with nothing but a guidebook and a camera.

I was told by several locals that Roturua was a necessary stop. When doing research I couldn’t find any good travel videos online showing what Roturua was like: sights, places to stay, restaurants, so I figured I would make my own video for future travelers.

Currently I live in Hawaii and do charter fishing videos. Not only do I enjoy deep sea fishing but it’s given me an opportunity to hone my underwater skills. I’ve swam with marlin, tuna, dolphins and a few sharks.

I love filmmaking of any kind. When I was in film school I worked on several short Doc subjects. I’ve had several ideas for feature documentaries but living on such a small island it’s very difficult to find collaborators. This project seems very compelling and informative and would be a great opportunity to work with other talented filmmakers.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
