Norway's Fjords

NORWAY | Tuesday, 19 May 2015 | Views [153] | Scholarship Entry

When you think of Norway, what comes to mind first?
The most common association are fjords. They are the symbol of the country and one of many reasons people consider Norway the most naturally beautiful country in Europe, specifically in Scandinavia.
I couldn't go to Norway without visiting any fjords, that wonderful scenery and mountains embody peace of mind. The best place for meditation and relaxation. I am keen on those kind of things.
I visited the Bergen area - the gateway to the fjords, which is well-known for its unpredictable weather, and I was lucky to have bright blue skies on my first day of travelling. After a long thinking about what will be the easiest way to see the fjords - hotel manager offered me a half-price fjord cruise. I was brimming with joy! The adventure started!
Often you do not have to think about your next destination, you just be you and let the road take you where you want. Because that’s what a road trip in Norway is all about. It’s about freedom, the freedom to be and the freedom to roam. And the fjord landscapes, oh, the majesty of it. I have not met one person who didn’t fall in love with the pure nature that Norway has to offer.
During the cruise I met a lot of "lonely-travelers" from different countries. They all were quite positive about their journey. Each one of them had their own traveling stories to listen to. One traveler from Denmark was fooling around a lot. He told that he met a troll and a giant, here in fjords! Obviously he was joking.
Fjord Norway has changed little since Viking longboats set sail for distant shores. But the beauty of this country still attracts traveles across the world.
There are no Viking longboats sailing along the rivers anymore, but you will see farms situated far up in the mountains, where is hard to believe that someone could live there. Unfortunately, today they are abandoned.
I could sit here and describe the fjords to you, using terms like majestic, pristine, beautiful, grand, etc. But a place with this much natural beauty can’t be described with words.
I would return to Norway - again and again. This experience really changed my inner world, natural beauty and human kindness in this country is indescribable. The Nordic countries have that special kind of harmony and atmosphere that can not be forgotten.
I hope that if you have not been in Norway yet, after reading this article you will consider you next travel destination - Norway, the incredible and beautiful fjords!
