My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Laos | Sunday, January 13, 2013 | 4 photos

For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be a photographer. However, growing up in a middle-class Queensland home to an auto mechanic father, a career in the arts always seemed like a flightful fancy. After school, I quickly found a job as a camera assistant; however I kept my hobby to myself. Many of my bosses were university graduates and I was embarrassed to admit that I wanted to be in their shoes. It has only been in recent years that I have started to think I could be a professional photographer.

I saved up for years and was finally able to buy a semi-professional DSLR. I took a few months off to travel and photograph Asia. At last, my passion for photography was re-ignited! I started to believe that maybe I didn’t need a degree at all. Perhaps all I needed was a good eye, an unshakable passion and some guidance.

I am an avid travel photography enthusiast. When I press that shutter release on a foreign scenario I’ve never experienced before, I feel young again. I’m a boy with eyes full of wonder and I’m trying to preserve an awesome moment. For this reason, I would love nothing more than to be taught by Jason Edwards in the World Nomad’s Photography Scholarship.
