Dusty House

About paulchenby

These photos were taken at an abandoned, old Gregorian house in “la Condesa” in Mexico City.

After a lot of research, my brother and me finally sneaked into the house. I couldn’t wait to take pictures of it. It was very difficult to get inside, but once we were in, we realized it was totally worth it. When we finally overcame our fears, we started to appreciate its beauty. The beauty of destruction. Eventually we were able to explore all his hidden secrets.

How had this house survived? We had to be very careful, because the floor and the walls could break at any moment. In a strange way the house seemed to have life in it, or at least rests of what used to be someone`s life, memories and sensations.

It was incredible being there, realizing how a constructed object can, in some way, become a living thing. Just standing there for so many years, leaving memories and all kind of experiences.

We knew it used to be alive, because of all the vibrations we could feel, being inside of the house., It was like feeling what the house felt and knowing threw what the house had passed, like knowing someone old, whose scars talk for him and his life. We were able to feel and see how the house used to be in his best times. But on the other hand we love it how it is nowadays because it has more experiences and wisdom that it can share. It has become part of the cycle of life, in which you are born, you live, and after many years of different experiences you just die, leaving only memories and more dust to the world.

It was amazing how between every destroyed room there was a little remark of beauty and live, for example a ray of light, a new growing plant, or a more intense color induced by rust. All these small things make the old and come down house look beautiful and amazing. They give the house life. I tried to show all this in my photos. In my photos I always try to show how everything, even ugly things, have something beautiful. Something small, that most people don`t see.

We also found rests of contemporary clothes, furniture, and pictures from the last owner who had suddenly left his home, leaving it to death.

Well, and about me, I’m definitely a life lover, I’m totally in love with life, I just love everything about it.

There’s nothing I wouldn’t love. I would love going and exploring every single place on earth, knowing new places and people, climbing, running, learning, partying, talking, writing, photographing as staying at home resting from a long work experience just doing nothing but reading, studding, cooking and watching others photographs.

While taking photographs I don’t just watch life, I appreciate all that beauty in it and try to show it to other people. There’s beauty in every single place, not only in esthetic things, but also in dead, sadness and ugliness, its all part of this world and life. This is why I chose this old house, because it shows all this and expresses everything I want to show the world.

If I win this travel experience I would be able to learn how to express even more my feelings and not only in my environment, but also in the whole world, with help of you guys!

It would be the start of the biggest dream I ever had.
